The Book is addressed to the advanced undergraduate and graduate students interested in lasers. It encompasses the wide area joining laser physics and non-linear optics. The earlier chapters give a concise account of basic physics on which the operation of lasers depends. Quantum mechanical treatment of the interaction of radiation with an atom and of some important optical processes is presented.
This prepares the way, by easy stages, for the formal development of lasers. The advances in laser physics over the last twenty-five years are described. The material in non-linear optics scattered in various journals is collected in a compact and unified manner. Some research problems of current interest are discussed. The treatment is kept as simple as possible so that a graduate student should not have any difficulty with it.
The book should help the reader to acquire new concepts and advanced methods in non-linear optics and give him a sort of overall perspective necessary to continue further independent research. The book should be useful to a variety of readers. Printed Pages: Seller Inventory BV. More information about this seller Contact this seller 9. More information about this seller Contact this seller It can also be used as a textbook for first year engineering students. Topics such as Chemical Equilibrium and Saha lonization formula have also been included in the book.
A chapter on Basic Concepts of Probability has been included which is of auxiliary nature and may be omitted by those who are acquainted with the Theory of Probability. An attempt has been made to emphasize the physical basis of the subject, but without undue neglect of its mathematical aspects.
The book thus bridges the gap between highly mathematical works and the usual less rigorous formulations of the subject. Problems are given at the end of each chapter which are meant to be read as integral part of the text.
These involve a number of applications and also serve to highlight techniques. Soft cover. The book is designed to serve as a basic text for students of physics at the graduate and postgraduate levels. It presents a coherent, comprehensive account of the fundamentals of electromagnetic theory. The primary concern of the book is to enable the student to obtain a satisfactory intuitive grasp of the subject, to make him realise that the subject is relevant and useful and to encourage him to develop some facilities in its use.
The book bridges the gap between highly mathematical works and the very elementary introductions of the subject. In this edition arguments in some cases have been expanded to improve the clarity; new sections on some topics of importance have been added; and additional fully worked examples to bring out some subtle points have been included. With these modifications the book will be most useful not only to students of physics, engineering and applied mathematics but also to those working in other allied fields.
